Editorial Policy

BMI Tracker publishes free, educational information about Body Mass Index. This page explains how we create and maintain that content so you can judge how much to trust it. We are an independent educational website, not a medical provider.

Who writes this content

Content is written and maintained by the BMI Tracker editorial team. We are not doctors, dietitians, or a medical service, and nothing on this site is a substitute for professional medical advice. To keep this honest, we do not display a "medically reviewed" badge, because we do not employ a qualified medical reviewer. Where personal health interpretation matters, we direct readers to a qualified healthcare provider and to official sources.

How we research and source

  • We base BMI formulas and adult categories on official public health sources, primarily the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NIH/NHLBI), and the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • We link to these sources on health-explanation pages so you can verify them.
  • We describe what BMI can and cannot tell you, and we avoid presenting BMI as a diagnosis or a measure of overall health.

How we avoid medical claims

We follow a consistent set of content-safety rules. We do not:

  • diagnose health conditions or imply that a BMI result is a diagnosis;
  • recommend treatments, diets, or that anyone lose or gain weight;
  • use alarming, shaming, or fear-based language about results;
  • apply adult BMI categories to children or teens (ages 2-19).

Instead, we describe BMI as a screening measure and a useful starting point, and we encourage readers to discuss personal questions with a qualified healthcare provider. The full method behind our calculators is documented in our methodology.

How often we review pages

We review our core informational pages periodically and when the underlying public health guidance changes. Informational pages show a "Last updated" date so you can see when they were last revised. That date reflects an editorial update, not a medical review.

Corrections

If you spot an error or something unclear, please tell us through our contact page. We welcome corrections that help us keep the information accurate, and we will update the page and its "Last updated" date when we make a substantive change.

Privacy

Our calculators run in your browser and we do not collect the measurements you enter. See our privacy policy and medical disclaimer for details.
